Whitby Goth Weekend: When Our Seaside Town Turns Beautifully Dark

There are few events in the UK quite as iconic, atmospheric, and unforgettable as Whitby Goth Weekend. Twice a year, our charming Yorkshire seaside town is transformed into a spectacular celebration of alternative culture, creativity, music, fashion, and community. Streets fill with velvet cloaks, Victorian gowns, dramatic makeup, steampunk creations, leather boots, lace parasols, and some of the most imaginative outfits you’ll ever see.

For anyone who has never experienced it, Whitby Goth Weekend is far more than an event — it is a phenomenon.

Why Whitby?

Whitby and gothic culture have been linked for generations thanks to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which was inspired by the town during his stay here in 1890. The haunting silhouette of Whitby Abbey standing high above the harbour, the famous 199 steps, winding cobbled streets, sea mists, and dramatic coastline create the perfect gothic setting.

Quite simply, there could not be a better home for Goth Weekend.

Our Most Unforgettable Weekend Yet – 1st to 3rd May

This year’s Whitby Goth Weekend from 1st to 3rd May was one to remember here at LilyRose Hotel.

We were honoured to receive a visit from Vlad Dracula III, who greeted our guests in suitably terrifying style and just about managed to keep his teeth away from our manager’s neck!

Guests enjoyed photographs, laughter, and a wonderfully theatrical moment that perfectly captured the fun spirit of Goth Weekend.
